ONE CONNECTED PROJECT
The plant can make oxygen. The generators make sure it can keep making it.
African Mission Healthcare is providing the oxygen plant itself. It is an extraordinary gift—but the plant cannot simply be delivered, plugged in, and switched on.
It needs a permanent structure to protect it. It needs piping to carry oxygen from the plant to patients throughout the hospital. And because the plant requires 40 kW of electricity, it needs dependable backup power when the grid fails.
Without reliable power, there is no reliable oxygen.
The two new generators are not an extra piece of this campaign. They are part of the same lifesaving system. They will keep the oxygen plant running while also supporting incubators, monitors, suction machines, laboratories, operating theatres, and other essential care throughout the hospital.
THE CURRENT NEED
Oxygen arrives one cylinder at a time.
Nearly every patient outside the operating theatres who needs oxygen receives it from a portable cylinder. When one runs empty, a member of the hospital’s two-person biomedical team must stop what they are doing and replace it.
The cylinders come from one company an hour and a half away. That supplier serves the entire county and does not always have enough available. A broken truck or an interruption in the supply chain can leave Kapsowar without an independent source.
There have been days when staff had to borrow cylinders from a smaller nearby facility just to keep oxygen flowing.
