A year-end campaign for Kapsowar Mission Hospital

Help bring reliable oxygen to every patient who needs it.

Kapsowar Mission Hospital is preparing to produce oxygen on site - but the system needs permanent structures and reliable backup power. Your gift can help bring oxygen directly to patients’ bedsides and keep lifesaving care running when the electricity fails.

OUR GOAL BY DECEMBER 31

$120,000

Precious could not breathe on her own.

She was only six months old when severe pneumonia left her fighting for every breath.

For three days, Precious needed the highest level of oxygen Kapsowar could provide. Without it, her doctors believe she would not have survived.

Precious recovered. But the oxygen that kept her alive came from portable cylinders—part of a system vulnerable to shortages, delivery delays, and cylinders running empty.

For children like Precious, oxygen cannot depend on the next cylinder arriving in time.

WHY RELIABLE OXYGEN MATTERS

Oxygen arrives on cylinder at a time.

THE PROBLEM TODAY

MOVE IT

Each cylinder must be transported through the hospital by hand.

REPLACE IT

When one runs empty, someone from the two-person biomedical team must stop and replace it—assuming another cylinder is available.

REPEAT IT

Kapsowar uses around 200 cylinders every month, at a cost of approximately $4,600.

The cylinders come from one supplier an hour and a half away. Countywide shortages, supply interruptions, or a broken delivery truck can leave Kapsowar without an independent source.

There have been days when staff have borrowed cylinders from a smaller nearby facility just to keep oxygen flowing.

No patient's care should depend on whether a delivery truck arrives or the electricity stays on.

Five years ago, Kapsowar operated at about 40% inpatient capacity. Today, it is routinely full, and its newborn unit often cares for more than 30 babies at once. The hospital has grown—but its dependence on portable cylinders has not changed.

ONE CONNECTED SOLUTION

Mockup of proposed oxygen plant and structure

Reliable oxygen needs reliable power.

African Mission Healthcare is providing an oxygen plant large enough to serve patients throughout the growing hospital. Friends of Kapsowar is raising the funds needed to house it, connect it to the wards, and keep it running when the grid fails.

02

Install two generators

One 100 kW generator can efficiently carry the usual load. Both can run together when demand is high, and either can keep working while the other is serviced.

01

Build two structures

Purpose-built housing will protect both the generators and oxygen equipment and give staff safe places to operate them.

03

Bring oxygen bedside

Piping will carry oxygen directly from the plant to the wards, replacing the hospital’s dependence on portable cylinders.

Care becomes safer, steadier, and ready to grow.

WHAT CHANGES

✓ A reliable, on-site oxygen supply for every department

✓ Oxygen piped directly to wards

✓ Backup power for the entire hospital

✓ Money saved for the hospital in purchase of cylinders

✓ Ability to expand critical care for the hospital

A complete system—not just one piece of it.
