Breaking Ground: A New Chapter for Kapsowar
Our hospital director, Stanley Mutwol, with Jeremy Bar, Samaritan Purse Project Manager, as well as several of project contractors, handing over the documents for the construction.
One of the greatest challenges we’ve faced at Kapsowar Mission Hospital is space—or rather, the lack of it. As our services grow and more physicians and residents, both Kenyan and international, come to train and serve, the demand for housing has outpaced what we can provide. Sadly, we’ve even had to turn people away simply because we didn’t have a place for them to stay.
Another great need for our community has also been a dedicated classroom space for the children of our medical staff—an essential support for the families who give so much to this work.
But this April, we reached a major turning point.
We are thrilled to announce that we broke ground on a transformative new project: a housing project and community center building made possible through generous partnership with Samaritan’s Purse.
Over the next 18 months, this project will bring 48 brand-new housing units to our station, along with a large community center designed to serve as a gathering space, schoolhouse, and hub for connection.
This effort has been months in the making and we’re excited to share a few snapshots and a short video from the groundbreaking ceremony and the future building sites.
These new spaces will allow us to grow sustainably, welcome more medical professionals and families, and continue offering compassionate care to some of the most vulnerable patients in this region.

The community center will hold 11 classrooms, a library, a communal space for meeting, and a kitchen for shared meals.
Part of the construction will include 8 two-bedroom townhomes.
8 new 4-bedroom family homes will be built behind where our current station is.
We can’t wait to share the progress with you as the walls go up and this dream becomes a reality.
