Change is Happening
Today, we wanted to give you a glimpse into what’s happening inside the hospital through Friends of Kapowar.
It’s easy to think of change as something far off—something that happens “eventually”—the reality here is different.
It’s happening now.
Here are just a few of the ways care is moving forward at Kapsowar—because people have chosen to stand in the gap for the most vulnerable:
Covering hospital bills for patients who would can’t afford care
Funding C-sections for mothers in urgent need
Hiring three new clinical officers to care for more patients each day
Providing a full year of nutritional supplements for malnourished children
Furnishing our new Maternal Child Health space to better serve mothers and babies
These projects are still unfolding, and there’s so much more we’re excited to share with you. But today, we want to pause and bring you into three recently completed projects.
Seeing What Matters Most:
Patient Monitors
Mary checks the vital signs of a pediatric patient on the ward.
These monitors give our medical team real-time insight into a patient’s condition—so they can act quickly when it matters most.
In a busy ward, a nurse needs to know—Is this patient stable? Are they getting worse? Do we need to act now?
That’s what a monitor does.
It quietly tracks the most important signals of life: heart rate, oxygen levels, breathing.
Before, we didn’t have enough monitors for every patient who needed one. Staff had to share. Sometimes, they had to rely on intermittent checks instead of continuous monitoring.
Because of the generosity of those who saw this need, that has changed.
With over 10 new monitors in place for $3,550, our team can now:
Catch complications earlier
Respond faster in emergencies
Provide safer, more attentive care
The System That Keeps Everything Running:
Our Hospital Server
Julius, our IT manager, led the installation of the hospital’s new server, ensuring everything was set up smoothly and ready to support patient care.
This is one of those things you don’t see… until it stops working.
Our hospital runs on a digital system that stores every patient record—lab results, medications, histories. It allows doctors and nurses to access critical information instantly.
But our old server was failing. It was slow. Unreliable. And when it went down, the entire system went with it—bringing patient care to a halt.
Today that risk is gone—because people saw the need and chose to help.
With a $6,500 investment, we now have:
A new, faster server
A backup system to protect against failure
A reliable foundation for patient care
It’s the kind of upgrade that doesn’t draw attention—but quietly supports every single patient who walks through our doors.
Restoring Dignity
Patient Gowns & Linens
When resources are tight, hospitals have to prioritize life-saving medications and equipment. Things like linens and gowns get pushed aside.
But those details matter.
They matter to a mother recovering after delivery. They matter to a child lying in a hospital bed. They matter to every patient who deserves to be treated with dignity.
Because of the generosity of others, we were able to invest $4,150 into new linens and gowns across the hospital:
Surgical wards
Inpatient wards
Pediatric units
Newborn and maternity care
Each of these gowns was made right here at the hospital, sewn by our own skilled tailor, Fred.
It’s easy to think impact has to be something big or dramatic to matter. But here, we see every day that it’s often the small, faithful improvements that change everything. They allow our doctors to do their jobs well and help a hospital continue showing up for its community day after day.
There is so much more unfolding, and we can’t wait to share it with you. But for now, we hope you can see what we see—what’s possible here is changing.
